Welcome to Asheville LETS! We hope your membership in this network will open up a new world of possibilities for you.

How It Works... simply

There are two types of LETS accounts: Web-based and Paper. Paper Accounts are for members who do not have regular (at least weekly) access to the Internet, do not have an email address, or who do not want to use the online system. When you sign up for a Paper Account, you will receive a paper directory and statement of your account several times a year. Here are some basics on using your Paper Account:

SPENDING LETS:

  1. Use the directory. When you need something, browse the printed directory to see if any member of the Asheville LETS network offers what you need. If the cost isn't clear or the rate is negotiable, be sure to agree on a price beforehand. Treat all listings with the same caution you would a classified ad. If you do not see what you need listed, you can submit a new “Offers & Wants” sheet to the Asheville LETS Organizing Group. They will post the new listing online and in the next printed directory. Remember to let organizers know when to remove your listings, so people don't contact you for things you no longer offer or want! You can call the 800 number above at any time to request that the Asheville LETS organizers modify your listings.
  2. Write out a LETS voucher for the agreed amount and give it to the person who has provided you with a service. They will record the exchange online, or call and mail it into the Organizing Group for recording. When this exchange is received, the Organizing Group will call you to ask you to confirm or dispute it. If the exchange is confirmed automatically or by you, the account records will be updated online and noted on your quarterly statement. If you dispute the exchange, the member claiming to receive LETS from you will be asked to produce the signed LETS Voucher as proof that the exchange occurred as stated.
  3. You may keep a record of your spending on your Exchange Log, so you can check it against your statement. If you keep a running total, you will always be aware of the current balance of your account. Contact the Organizing Group if you need additional LETS Vouchers.

REMEMBER – YOU DO NOT NEED TO EARN LETS BEFORE YOU USE THEM. Everyone's account starts at zero and a number of the members accounts will be in 'commitment' at any one time for the system to work.

NO INTEREST is ever charged on Asheville LETS accounts.

ACQUIRING LETS:

  1. The more you make contact with other members the more LETS will benefit you. To gain credits, browse the “Wants” to see if someone is asking for what you offer & contact them. If no one calls, don't sit around waiting! There is always a demand for services which don't require special skills. Contact the Organizing Group to post new “Offers” of resources you can share or things that you could help someone out with. You can also change your pricing (or any details of your listings) by calling into the Organizing Group.
  2. When you receive a LETS Voucher for services delivered, call in the details of the exchange to 1-800-627-9060 and hold onto your LETS Voucher for at least one week to ensure the exchange is recorded properly.

Asheville LETS does not make any guarantees or references regarding any of the goods or services provided by members. Asheville LETS disclaims any liability or responsibility for the exchanges agreed to by members.
