How Does It Work? Web-based Accounts

Version 1.1

Welcome to Asheville LETS! Before you get started, please add “no-reply@ashevillelets.org” to your email contact list to prevent the treatment of our messages as spam.

How It Works... simply

There are two types of LETS accounts: Web and Paper-based. Web-based Accounts are available for those with regular access to the Internet (at least on a weekly basis) and an email address. When you sign up for a Web-based Account, you will be emailed a password. You can then log in at AshevilleLETS.org to browse the directory, update your directory entries, record or dispute transactions and check your balance. If you lose your password, you can have it reset by visiting www.AshevilleLETS.org/members/resetPassword.

SPENDING LETS:

  1. Use the directory. Browse the online directory to see if any member of the Asheville LETS network offers what you need. If the cost isn't clear or the rate is negotiable, be sure to agree on a price beforehand. Treat all listings with the same caution you would a classified ad. If you do not see what you need listed, you can add a new “Want.” Just click the “Edit Your Offers & Wants” link on your account page. The new listing will be posted immediately to the online directory (please indicate if you would like it listed in the printed directory if this is a long-term want). Remember to remove your listings when they are no longer relevant so that people don't contact you for things you no longer offer or want!
  2. Fill out and sign a LETS voucher for the agreed amount and give it to the person who has provided you with a service. S/he will record the exchange online, or call it into the Organizing Group to be recorded. When this exchange is entered, you will receive an email asking for you to confirm or dispute the exchange. If you do not dispute the exchange within 7 days, it will automatically be confirmed. Once confirmed, accounts will be updated. If you dispute the exchange, the member claiming to receive LETS from you will be asked to produce the signed LETS Voucher as proof that the exchange occurred as stated.
  3. You may keep a record of your spending on your Exchange Log, so you can check it against your online balance. Contact the Organizing Group if you need additional LETS Vouchers.

REMEMBER – YOU DO NOT NEED TO EARN LETS BEFORE YOU USE THEM. Everyone's account starts at zero and a number of the members accounts will be in 'commitment' at any one time for the system to work.

ACQUIRING LETS:

  1. The more you make contact with other members the more LETS will benefit you. To gain LETS, browse the “Wants” for someone who is asking for something you can offer. If no one calls, don't sit around waiting! There is always a demand for services which don't require special skills. Post new “Offers” on the website for resources you can share or things that can could help someone out with. You can also change your pricing online at any time.
  2. When you receive a LETS Voucher for services completed, record the exchange by clicking the “Record an Exchange” link on your account page. The exchange will be classified as “pending” until it is confirmed by the other member involved. If someone disputes the exchange, you will be asked to produce the signed Check as proof that the exchange occurred as stated. Please hold onto these Vouchers in your Member Packet folder as proof of the exchange!

Asheville LETS does not make any guarantees or references regarding any of the services provided by members. Asheville LETS disclaims any liability or responsibility for the exchanges agreed to by members.
