January Workparty

Next meeting is actually a work party:

Tuesday, Jan 9th
3pm - 6pm (or later!
Scott & Kila's house

Bring snacks, laptops, notes, anything and everything we might want to work on. We will probably be focusing on outreach and membership packets for the soft launch. Anytime after 6pm, we can go over to check out the media room at the Reid Center (we're on the schedule). Then we might go out to a movie or do something else fun around the time that we would usually be meeting. If you can't make it, be sure to drop by at some point to pick up pamphlets & flyers!

Website

Scott showed us some cool new stuff and hopes to have the transaction functionality working by next Tuesday! Things are really far along with the website, and there's no question we'll have it up & running by soft launch. We are going to switch over to the new site (from the placeholder site) this week. Details about the soft launch party will be on the front page of the new site, because we've been handing out the flyers, which do not have a location, but direct people to look at the website. Looks so good!

Forms / Constitution

Kim re-did her notes on the constitution and shared them with everyone. Kila will work on the constitution by next meeting. At the time of this meeting, Kila was either going to meet with Joe to update forms or re-create them. At the time of the typing up of the notes - Kila & Joe have decided to work on the forms at the work party next week.

Meeting Locations

Kim said she would look into the Reid Center and the Montford community centers. Kila said she would check out the library as a location for the soft launch party. It was all agreed that we need to secure a public weekly meeting location by next week!

Voice Mail

Kim researched voice mail and 1-800 numbers. I don't think all of the details are important enough to type up, but a little more research was needed before making the decision. We would like to have a voice mail number to put on the flyer / invite to soft launch party by next Tuesday (Monday, preferably).

Soft Launch Party

Outreach - it was decided that the outreach email created by Kim & Scott back in the day would be modified to invite people to the soft launch party. That email was never sent out to our contacts list because we really didn't feel we were asking people to do anything with it. Now we have something to offer & invite people to!

Location - Kila is going to check into the library. Kim will check into Montford Community Center (the Reid Center, after this meeting, was secured as the location)

Flyers - Scott re-created a flyer invite and will update with location

Planning - We had a discussion about the structure of the soft launch part. We clarified our goals. These are the things people tossed out as goals for the soft launch party:

  • Outreach to organizers (get people involved with the organizing aspects of LETS)
  • Sign up people for soft launch membership
  • Give a brief overview of alternative economics to open people's minds
  • Secure a diverse skill base
  • Demonstrate how it works (like through a game)
  • Explain how it works (website, etc.)

Out of this set of goals, we set up a draft structure for the workshop. Try to keep in mind what section you might like to take on while reading this:

  • Introduction to alternative economics
  • What is Asheville LETS?
  • Introductions (go round the room)
  • Game to demonstrate LETS
  • Overview of how it works - website etc. (Scott w projector & computer)
  • Q&A
  • Brainstorming Offers & Wants
  • Help people (all at once) sign up
  • Dessert! Socializing!
