Notes

Legal

Kila & Scott made contact with Ithaca Hours lawyer who sounds really interested in helping out. It also happens to be tax season and he's crazy busy & will be out of town for 2 weeks. We decided to attempt to set up a preliminary meeting in person as soon as possible, but we won't expect to have the tax/welfare guidelines finalized till around the time of the public launch & that's ok. No reportback on the liabilities front. The need was expressed to contact more lawyers, the more the better. However, we don't seem to have a lot of leads.

Outreach

It was requested by some organizers (I belive, thru Jim Barton) that Asheville LETS be represented at the "Sacred Activism" weekend (www.wisdomuniversity.org). Through another route, we were offered a Jubilee! scholarship to go. Even though we expect this demographic to be strongly represented, we decided we should probably go to talk about the project. Because of scheduling issues, Scott may represent Saturday and Kila might represent Sunday. We're presenting at the Permaculture Guild this weekend. We got letters out to Reid Center organizers, and the director expressed interest in dropping in on an orientation at some point.

Benefit

The Miso Making workshop went really well, although it wasn't full. We made $165 which Joe handed over. Joe will follow up with Kim about the DJ benefit "Dance Dance Revolution" (which is supposed to be ironic, folks) so that they can get the word out. There was talk about doing an orientation at 8pm before the DJ party if possible. Someone needs to talk to Brad @ BoBo's about that... We also need flyers for the seedling swap. Not a lot of concrete movement on that.

Translator

Yay, Scott! A friend who is very interested in LETS has offered to do some translation support. That means helping us get an article in La Voz perhaps, translating some documents. She's well connected & could help open up LETS to a broader community in Asheville. She may be willing to take some calls to from Spanish speaking people interested. Note: We gotta focus on working on those ARTICLES soon b/c that's our major outreach effort for the public launch.

Timeline

This was the major feat of the evening. Here are the decisions we made on scheduling:

  • Sat, June 2 2-5pm @ west asheville libary (hopefully) Big shebang workshop/orientation w games & all!
  • maybe - Tues, June 5 6pm @ Reid Center Orientation (we may or may not do this based on our energy)
  • Sat, June 9 PUBLIC LAUNCH which will be an actual fun trading event in the real world (so it's not a theoretical date and something that only happens in cyberspace) somewhere good, we'll develop this later
